UAE judoka wins bronze at Rio Olympic Games

The UAE has won its first medal at the Rio Olympic Games as Sergiu Toma won a bronze in the under 81kg category for men in judo, the first Arab medal of the Games.

The 29-year-old Toma beat Italian Jodokas Matteo Marconcini on Tuesday night in the third place match, doubling the UAE's Olympic medal count after a 12 year wait.

Sergiu Toma, born in Moldova but given citizenship by the UAE three years ago, dedicated his medal to the people of the UAE. Read more...
