• Two pupils killed after an avalanche struck Les Deux Alpes in France
• Group of students and a teacher from Lyon were among those swept away
• A Ukrainian who was not part of the group was also killed, police said
• Judicial inquiry will try to find out why the teacher took them on the closed run and whether the correct signs were in place
An investigation has been launched after two pupils and an adult died when an avalanche struck a ski resort in the French Alps today.
The snow slide hit skiers, including a group of French students, in Les Deux Alpes in eastern France after a teacher took them onto a black run which had been closed since the beginning of the ski season for safety reasons.
Patrick Kanner, French minister for youth and sports, said today: 'A judicial inquiry will say why the teacher, who was himself injured, took (the group) onto a piste which was not open.
